Student Policies

Our policies are here to support clarity, safety, and fairness in all of our education programs. They explain how we work together, what you can expect from SPRING, and what SPRING expects from you as a student and emerging professional. By enrolling in any SPRING teacher training program, you agree to follow the policies outlined on this page.

These policies form part of your Enrollment Agreement.

If you have questions at any time, you can reach us at hello@springmovement.com

Communication & Program Structure

  • For enrolled students, all program-related communication should go through your Learning Hub Inbox or the Student Success Team at success@springmovement.com

For prospective students or general questions, please contact hello@springmovement.com

These channels help keep communication clear, documented, and organized. SPRING strives to respond as promptly as possible.

  • SPRING may adjust schedules or educator assignments if unexpected circumstances arise. If a change is needed, we will give as much notice as reasonably possible. Any substitute educator will meet SPRING’s standards for professionalism and expertise. Curriculum, learning outcomes, and total course hours remain consistent.

  • SPRING welcomes students who are ready to learn, practice, and teach with curiosity and integrity.

    To enroll:

    • You must be 18 years or older by the program start date

    • You must complete all application and enrollment steps by published deadlines

    • Enrollment is confirmed once your application is accepted, your enrollment agreement is signed, and your tuition or payment plan is processed

SPRING does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, creed, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.

Attendance, Participation, & Makeup

  • Students are expected to arrive on time for all Teaching Labs (workshops), whether virtual or in-person, fully prepared with the necessary learning materials and ready to engage. Punctuality and active participation are essential for successful completion of SPRING’s Teacher Training Programs.

    Attendance Requirements

    • Attendance of 100% of scheduled Teaching Lab hours is required in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.

    • Any missed Teaching Lab hours must be completed in accordance with the Make Up Session Policy and will incur an additional fee.

    • Students who miss multiple Teaching Labs may be required to transfer to a future cohort if their absences significantly impact learning progression and cohort integration.

SPRING reserves the right to determine whether continued participation in the current cohort is appropriate based on overall attendance, engagement, and progression.

    Notifying SPRING

If you are running late or unable to attend due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, please notify SPRING by logging into the Learning Hub and directly messaging the scheduled educator.

Early communication allows us to best support your progression through the program.

    Virtual Learning Expectations

    Students attending virtually must:

    • Log into Zoom at the scheduled start time using the provided meeting link.

    • Keep their video on for the duration of all virtual Teaching Labs to ensure active participation.

    • Remain actively engaged and available for breakout sessions and practice teaching components.

SPRING’s attendance expectations are designed to maintain the integrity, safety, and professional standards of each certification program while supporting student success.

  • SPRING is committed to maintaining high standards across all Teacher Training Programs while supporting students through a clear and consistent makeup process.

Teaching Labs are a core component of each certification. When a Teaching Lab is missed, students are required to complete structured makeup requirements to demonstrate engagement with the material and application of teaching principles.

    Mat & Reformer Certifications

Makeup requirements for Mat and Reformer certifications are determined by the number of Teaching Labs missed within a certification.

    Makeup Thresholds

Makeup requirements are determined by the number of Teaching Labs (days) missed within a certification.

If a student misses 1–2 Teaching Labs:

    • The student must complete a Makeup Assignment for each missed Teaching Lab.

    • Makeup assignments must be successfully completed before certification can be finalized.

    • A flat fee of $200 per missed Teaching Lab applies.

If a student misses 3 or more Teaching Labs:

Makeup assignments alone are not sufficient. The student will be required to:

    • Attend the missed Teaching Labs in a future cohort, or

    • Transfer to a later cohort to complete the certification.

SPRING reserves the right to determine the most appropriate pathway based on overall attendance, engagement, and progression.

    Makeup Assignment Overview

Makeup assignments are designed to ensure students demonstrate understanding and application of the material covered in the missed Teaching Lab.

Depending on the certification and the content of the missed session, assignments may include:

    • A structured class plan submission

    • A teaching demonstration where appropriate

    • Written reflection

    • Targeted written responses related to the specific Teaching Lab theme

All submissions must be completed via the Learning Hub.

Assignments are assessed on a pass or re-submit basis. Feedback is concise and focused on confirming competency alignment or identifying areas requiring resubmission.

Estimated student time commitment per Teaching Lab makeup is approximately 2–4 hours.

Submissions are reviewed within 7-10 business days of receipt.

    Apparatus Certification

The Apparatus Certification includes Teaching Labs dedicated to specific pieces of equipment. Each weekend focuses on hands-on practice and live teaching experience on designated apparatus.

Because of the equipment-specific and sequential structure of this certification, makeup pathways differ from Mat and Reformer.

If a student misses 1 Teaching Lab:

The student may complete a Makeup Assignment and pay the $200 per Teaching Lab fee.

If a student misses more than 1 Teaching Lab:

Due to the hands-on and equipment-based nature of this certification, assignment-only makeup is not sufficient beyond one missed Teaching Lab.

In these cases, SPRING will determine the most appropriate makeup pathway based on the specific equipment missed and the student’s overall progression through the program.

This may include reattendance in a future cohort or other approved arrangements as determined by SPRING.

    Fees

    Makeup Assignments

A flat fee of $200 per missed Teaching Lab applies when completing Makeup Assignments.

    Reattendance in a Future Cohort

If a student attends missed Teaching Labs in a future cohort, a $200 administrative reentry fee applies per weekend reattendance.

This fee applies regardless of the number of Teaching Labs being completed during that specific weekend.

    Makeup fees:

    • Must be paid prior to assessment review or reattendance

    • Are non-refundable and non-transferable

Makeup fees reflect administrative processing, cohort management adjustments, educator assessment where applicable, and certification record updates.

    Mentoring

Private mentoring sessions are not a required component of the makeup process.

Students who would like additional support are welcome to book a private mentoring session at the standard mentoring rate.

    Certification Timeframe

All makeup requirements must be completed within the student’s original 12-month certification timeframe, calculated from the advertised program start date.

Extensions to the certification timeframe are managed through a separate application process.

SPRING’s makeup process exists to protect both your education and the integrity of your certification. Teaching Labs are where practical skills, confidence, and professional judgment are developed. Completing makeup requirements ensures that every graduate leaves the program prepared to teach safely, effectively, and with credibility in the industry.

  • SPRING’s flipped-learning model requires consistent engagement with online coursework.

    Students must:

    • Complete all online modules, readings, homework, and knowledge checks

    • Prepare for Teaching Labs by completing assigned pre-work

    • Participate fully in discussions and practical sessions

Homework and coursework are essential to readiness and assessment success.

Conduct, Ethics, & Community

This category outlines how we show up together, how we create safety and belonging as a community, and the shared values that guide behavior and culture within SPRING.

  • SPRING’s learning environment is built on respect, curiosity, and shared responsibility. We are a community of learners, and everyone plays a role in creating a space where people feel welcome, seen, and safe to participate fully.

    Students agree to:

    • Treat peers, educators, and studio partners with respect and care

    • Contribute to a learning environment where differences are valued

    • Communicate with honesty, compassion, and professionalism

    • Engage in class activities with curiosity and a willingness to learn

    • Care for equipment, shared spaces, and partner studios

    • Uphold SPRING’s Code of Ethical Practice

    • Support an environment that is free from harassment, discrimination, and intimidation

Unprofessional, harmful, or disruptive behavior may result in warnings, suspension, or dismissal in order to protect the safety and dignity of the learning space.

  • SPRING’s Code of Ethical Practice provides a framework for compassionate, responsible teaching. It includes expectations around:

    • Professional integrity and honesty

    • Clear communication and active listening

    • Informed consent and respect for boundaries

    • Teaching within your scope and referring when appropriate

    • Safety-first decision making

    • Inclusive, culturally responsive teaching

    • Respect for diverse bodies, identities, and lived experiences

    • Commitment to ongoing learning and self-reflection

SPRING expects students and graduates to embody these principles during training and in their future classes and professional practice.

  • SPRING certifications prepare students to teach Pilates within the limits of a Pilates instructor’s scope. Students and graduates must not diagnose, prescribe, or provide medical, physiotherapy, or rehabilitation treatment unless licensed to do so.

  • SPRING is guided by trauma-aware teaching principles. This means we recognize that every individual arrives with a unique history, nervous system, identity, and lived experience. Our goal is to create a learning environment where your body and your voice feel welcome.

    You can expect:

    • Clear communication and predictable structure

    • Choices in participation, whenever possible

    • Consent-based touch and teaching

    • Respect for your physical and emotional boundaries

    • Flexibility when sensitive content arises

    • A focus on safety, empowerment, and agency

Trauma-aware practice does not mean therapeutic intervention. Rather, it reflects the way we shape our learning spaces—with care, with boundaries, and with an understanding that people learn best when they feel safe.

  • SPRING embraces cultural humility as a lifelong practice. We commit to learning from our students, our diverse communities, and the evolving landscape of movement education.

We teach with an awareness that:

    • Bodies reflect a wide range of cultural norms, identities, and experiences

    • Movement is shaped by culture, history, and power

    • Students may interpret cues or touch differently based on background

    • Inclusivity requires curiosity, openness, and reflection—not assumptions

    • Language matters, and we aim to use language that supports clarity, respect, and belonging

Students and educators alike are encouraged to approach the learning space with curiosity, listening, and a willingness to adapt and evolve.

  • SPRING follows trauma-aware and consent-centered teaching principles. Touch is always optional.

    • Students and educators must obtain explicit consent before offering any tactile feedback

    • Students may decline touch at any time, for any reason

    • Consent may be withdrawn without explanation

    • Educators will offer verbal, visual, or prop-based alternatives whenever helpful

    • Touch is never required for successful participation

This approach helps ensure that all bodies, identities, and comfort levels are respected.

  • SPRING uses simple, compassionate community agreements to create shared clarity and honor our collective learning environment. These agreements support belonging, accountability, and meaningful collaboration.

During training, we invite all students to uphold agreements such as:

    • Take space, make space — Balance speaking and listening

    • Assume good intent, attend to impact — We grow through awareness, not blame

    • Honor confidentiality — Stories shared in the room stay in the room

    • Speak from personal experience — Use “I” statements when sharing reflections

    • Practice self-awareness and self-responsibility — Listen to your body and ask for what you need

    • Welcome diverse perspectives — Learning deepens when we hear from many voices

These agreements are not rules—they are shared values that help us co-create a grounded, respectful space.

  • SPRING is committed to protecting the dignity and privacy of every student.

    Students can expect:

    • A learning environment where identities—including race, body size, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and cultural or religious background—are respected and affirmed

    • The ability to share only what feels comfortable; no one is expected to disclose personal history or identity details

    • Confidentiality around personal experiences shared during training

    • Sensitivity in discussions of anatomy, movement patterns, injury, or lived experience

    • Protection from judgment, assumptions, or stereotyping

If you ever feel unsafe, unseen, or misunderstood, you are encouraged to reach out to your educator or the Student Success Team so we can support you.

  • SPRING is committed to a learning environment free from discrimination of any kind.
    This includes discrimination based on:

    • Race or ethnicity

    • Color

    • Gender, gender identity, or gender expression

    • Sexual orientation

    • Body size or appearance

    • Nationality or immigration status

    • Age

    • Disability or neurodivergence

    • Religion or creed

    • Family or marital status

    • Veteran status

    • Any protected characteristic under applicable law

Every student has the right to learn without fear of bias, exclusion, or unequal treatment.

  • Harassment — including sexual harassment — is strictly prohibited at SPRING.
    This includes:

    • Unwelcome verbal, written, physical, or digital behavior

    • Hostile or intimidating conduct

    • Sexual advances or inappropriate comments

    • Behavior that undermines psychological or physical safety

SPRING investigates all reports promptly, respectfully, and confidentially. Students are protected from retaliation when raising concerns in good faith.

  • Students may not unlawfully consume, possess, distribute, or sell controlled substances during any SPRING training activity or while on premises used for training.
Prescription medications taken as directed are not a violation of this policy.

  • Students may not remove or misuse equipment, props, technology, or studio property without permission. This applies to all partner studios and training environments.

  • To protect student privacy, recording or screen capturing any portion of a live Teaching Lab is not permitted unless SPRING has provided written authorization.

  • SPRING may dismiss a student when necessary to maintain a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
    Grounds include:

    • Harassment, discrimination, or abusive behavior

    • Serious or repeated policy violations

    • Academic dishonesty

    • Persistent disruption

    • Behavior that compromises physical or psychological safety

Refund eligibility follows SPRING’s Refund Policy.
Re-admittance may be considered on a case-by-case basis if appropriate.

  • SPRING encourages open communication and early resolution of concerns.

    Students are encouraged to:

    • Begin with optional informal resolution where safe

    • Speak with their educator or the Program Manager if concerns persist

    • Submit a formal grievance if needed

SPRING handles all grievances promptly, fairly, and without retaliation.
Appeals are available when students wish to contest assessment outcomes or decisions that directly affect progression or certification.

  • SPRING is committed to creating an inclusive, trauma-aware learning environment. We welcome students of diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences.

Students are encouraged to share accessibility needs early so we can explore appropriate supports.

  • Where appropriate and safe, SPRING may offer learning adjustments such as:

    • Extra time for assessments

    • Alternative formats for materials

    • Modified pacing plans

Requests must be submitted in writing and may require documentation.

Accessibility, & Support

Enrollment, Refunds, & Deferrals

  • SPRING certification programs include immediate access to digital learning materials. Because of this:

Once you are enrolled in the Learning Hub and have access to course materials, your enrollment is final. Refunds are not available after access is granted, except where required by law.

    Before access is granted:

    • Refund requests must be submitted in writing via email

    • SPRING may consider refunds only if the request is received before Learning Hub access is provided

    On-Demand Courses
Access begins immediately upon purchase. No refunds are available after purchase, except where required by law.

    Certification Programs
Refunds may be considered only if requested before Learning Hub access begins. Once access is granted, refunds cannot be issued except where legally required. Payment plans remain binding once access begins.

    School-Canceled Courses
If SPRING cancels a scheduled certification intake, you may receive a full refund or transfer into a future cohort at no additional cost.

    Bundled Pricing Refund Policy

If you enroll in a discounted multi-course bundle:

    • Refund requests will only be considered before access is granted to the first course

    • If a refund is approved:

      • Completed courses are billed at their full individual price

      • The bundle discount no longer applies

      • Any remaining balance may be refunded

After access is granted to the first bundled course, the bundle becomes non-refundable, except where required by law

  • Deferrals are available for cohort-based certifications (e.g., Mat, Reformer, Apparatus). Deferrals are not available for on-demand courses.

    To request a deferral:

    • Submit the request in writing

    • The request must be received at least five (5) business days before your first scheduled Teaching Lab

    Conditions:

    • One deferral per student per enrollment

    • Deferrals are non-transferable

    • Valid for 12 months from approval

    • Placement in a specific future cohort is not guaranteed

    • Administrative fees may apply

    • Deferrals may also be required if Phase 1 coursework is not completed five (5) days prior to the first Teaching Lab, as students must meet this milestone to progress into live training.

If you don’t return within your approved 12-month window, re-enrollment at full tuition may be required.

  • A Leave of Absence (LOA) may be requested if you experience:

    • Significant personal or family circumstances

    • A medical condition or injury

    • Pregnancy or postpartum needs

Requests must be submitted in writing. Supporting documentation may be required.

    Short-term LOAs (1–6 weeks):

    • You may be able to remain in your current cohort, depending on whether it impacts live teaching labs which require 100% attendance

    Long-term LOAs (beyond 6 weeks):

    • May be treated as a withdrawal and require reapplication or transfer into a future cohort

Returning from leave may require medical clearance or adjusted timelines. A Leave of Absence does not automatically extend your 12-month completion window. Any additional time requires an approved Test-Out Extension.

Assessment, Test Out, & Certification

  • SPRING assessments may include:

    • Online written exams

    • Practical teaching assessments (live or recorded)

    • Teaching portfolios or reflective assignments

    • Logbook verification (self-practice, observation, practice teaching)

All assessment requirements and scoring rubrics are available in the Learning Hub.

    Test-Out Process

Before attempting Test-Out, you must complete:

    • All required online coursework

    • All Teaching Labs

    • Required Logbook hours

    • Any assigned Makeup Courses

    Test-Out typically includes:

    • A written exam

    • A practical teaching assessment

Minimum passing scores and full details are listed in your Learning Hub.

  • Each enrollment includes one full Test-Out attempt.

    If you do not pass:

    • A written exam retake fee may apply

    • A practical resit fee may apply

    • Additional mentoring may be included depending on your program

A maximum number of attempts may apply. After the final attempt, re-enrollment may be required.

Current fees are listed under Fees & Financial Policies.

  • Completion Window

Students must complete all program requirements—including online coursework, Teaching Labs, logbook hours, assessments, and Test-Out—within 12 months of the advertised cohort start date, unless a Test-Out extension has been approved in writing.

For on-demand certifications, students must complete all requirements within 365 days of enrollment, unless an extension has been approved.

Students who do not complete within these windows may need to request an extension or re-enroll.

  • We understand that life can shift unexpectedly, and sometimes additional time is needed to complete your certification. Our goal is to support you in finishing strong while maintaining the integrity and structure of the program.

If you are unable to meet your original deadline, you may request a one-time extension.

    Conditions:

    • Requests must be submitted in writing, ideally two weeks before the deadline

    • Extensions provide up to three (3) additional months to complete remaining requirements

    • An extension fee applies

    • Only one extension is permitted per enrollment

    • Failure to complete all requirements within the extension period may require full re-enrollment

    • Current fees are listed under Fees & Financial Policies

Scope of Access During an Extension
A Test-Out extension grants extended access to SPRING-owned learning materials only (such as online coursework, assessments, and Learning Hub content).

Extensions do not extend access to any third-party services, platforms, partner studio benefits, discount codes, class credits, or promotional inclusions that may have been offered during your original enrollment period. These external services operate on their own timelines and cannot be extended by SPRING.

  • SPRING honors the time and preparation that educators and students invest in the Test-Out process. To keep assessments running smoothly and equitably, the following policies apply:

    • Changes or cancellations made more than 48 hours before your scheduled Practical Test-Out may be eligible for rescheduling or credit, provided the request is submitted in writing.

    • Changes or cancellations made within 48 hours are considered late.
A late cancellation forfeits your included practical attempt, and a reschedule fee will apply to book a new appointment.

    • If a second late cancellation occurs, you will be required to pay the full Practical Test-Out resit fee to schedule another attempt.

    • All cancellation or rescheduling requests must be made in writing to the SPRING Student Success Team.

For details on reschedule fees and resit fees, please refer to Fees & Financial Policies.

  • Certification is awarded only when all program requirements are completed, including:

    • Attendance

    • Coursework

    • Assessments

    • Conduct

    • Payment obligations

Completion of a SPRING certification does not guarantee employment at SPRING or any other facility.

  • SPRING cannot guarantee that external institutions will accept SPRING training hours unless a written agreement exists.

Students with prior relevant training may qualify for a Bridging Program into a SPRING Reformer or Apparatus Certification based on curriculum alignment and educator approval.

  • Students may request access to their training records by contacting SPRING. A secure virtual appointment may be arranged.

Fees & Financial Policies

We strive to keep all program fees transparent and easy to understand. The following fees apply across SPRING certification programs unless otherwise noted. These fees support educator time, assessment processes, administrative work, and access to additional resources when needed.

  • Mat, Reformer, & Apparatus Certification

If you miss any portion of a required live Mat, Reformer, or Apparatus Teaching Lab, you must complete a corresponding Makeup Assignment if eligible.

    • Makeup Assignment Fee (per Teaching Lab): $200

These fees apply each time a Makeup Assignment is required.

  • SPRING provides one written exam attempt and one practical Test-Out attempt as part of your certification tuition.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your Practical Test-Out, the following fees apply:

    • Practical Test-Out Reschedule Fee (late cancellation): $50
Applied when a cancellation or rescheduling request is made within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment.
This forfeits your included practical attempt.

    • Practical Test-Out Resit Fee: $200
Applied when a second late cancellation occurs, or when an additional practical attempt is needed beyond the included attempt.

(These fees appear in the Practical Test-Out Cancellation & Rescheduling policy.)

  • Each certification enrollment includes two attempts at written exams, and one attempt at practical exams. Additional attempts carry the following fees:

    • Written Exam Retake: $50

    • Practical Teaching Assessment Resit: $200

    • Third Practical Attempt (if approved): $200

Resit fees may include feedback or mentoring time with SPRING educators.

  • Extensions provide additional time beyond your original completion window.

    • On-Demand Course Extension (3 months): $100

    • Cohort-Based Certification Extension (3 months): $350

Extensions are granted once per enrollment.

  • If you defer from the final intake of a calendar year into the next year, an administrative fee may apply.

    • Deferral to the following year (if applicable): $100
