Building One of Melbourne's Most Loved Pilates Communities
In Conversation with Cat Webb, Founder of Good Times Pilates
By Kimmy Smith
If you've spent any time in Melbourne's Pilates community, there's a good chance you've come across Cat Webb.
As the founder of Good Times Pilates, Cat has created one of Melbourne's most loved Pilates communities. What started as a single studio has grown into four beautiful locations across Fitzroy, Northcote, Brunswick, and, most recently, Richmond.
Come for the Pilates. Stay for the people. The Good Times community has a way of turning classmates into familiar faces and lifelong friends.
Each studio has its own personality while still feeling unmistakably Good Times. Thoughtfully curated, effortlessly fun, and incredibly welcoming, they're the kind of spaces that make you want to arrive early, linger after class over a good chat, and keep coming back.
But behind the beautiful spaces, fun playlists, and incredible community is something even more special.
Cat has always believed Pilates should help people feel stronger, more confident, and more connected to themselves and the people around them. That philosophy guides absolutely everything she does and has become the heart of Good Times Pilates.
Even if you've never stepped inside one of their studios, you can feel it. It shines through in every behind-the-scenes moment, every celebration, and every story they share.
For me, this partnership feels a little extra special…
Back in 2022, as the world was finally opening back up after COVID, Talia and I met in person for the very first time in Melbourne after working together remotely for nearly two years. Until then, our friendship, and the early ideas that would eventually become SPRING, had grown entirely through Google Meets, voice notes, and countless messages sent across opposite sides of the world. When Talia flew home to Australia to visit family, we both knew it was finally our moment to meet.

Our first stop? Good Times Pilates.
We took class, grabbed coffee, wandered through Fitzroy, and spent hours chatting about a big idea that, until then, had only existed on computer screens. Between a phenomenal class at Good Times, coffee, and a lot of excited brainstorming, SPRING started to feel real.
That same trip brought another memory I'll never forget. I met up with Cat for coffee while she was around seven months pregnant. She took me to one of the cutest neighborhood cafés, where we found a table outside in the Australian morning sunshine and indulged in talking about Pilates, studio ownership, and the future of our industry.
We reminisced about Cat's recent trip to Brooklyn, where she'd visited East River Pilates and taken class while exploring New York. It felt less like two studio owners meeting for the first time and more like old friends catching up.
Think that's enough small-world stories? Here's one more.
Cat is also great friends with Lucy, founder of Scout Studios in Sydney, another one of our SPRING Home Studios. They've traveled across the world together, explored new cities, shared plenty of Pilates adventures, and remained close friends along the way.
Looking back now, it all feels a little bit magical. The Pilates industry has a funny way of bringing the right people together at just the right time. It's hard not to smile at how connected our community really is.
Today, welcoming Good Times Pilates as a SPRING Partner Studio feels like another beautiful full-circle moment.
So, this month, I sat down with Cat to chat about her journey into Pilates, the story behind Good Times, what she's learned through studio ownership, and why she's excited to help educate the next generation of Pilates instructors through SPRING.
With that little trip down memory lane, let's get to know the wonderful human behind Good Times Pilates…
Cat Webb, founder of Good Times Pilates, whose passion for community has shaped one of Melbourne's most loved Pilates studios.
How did Pilates first find you?
I took my first Pilates class at 27, at KX Pilates in Fitzroy, not long after moving back to Melbourne from Sydney. I'd been in a career that wasn't right for me, and my friends convinced me to come along. I remember it vividly, including the teacher, and being introduced to the woman next to me, Gabby.
Before that, I was never someone who moved her body for fun. I skipped PE in high school and was far more interested in socialising than exercising.
That first class was the first time I did a workout that I didn't hate, I was totally hooked.
That year I was doing Pilates almost every day. And I had a complete and total transformation! Mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, everything changed.
How did Good Times Pilates come to life?
I'd been teaching for years across a number of studios in Melbourne. This was over ten years ago, so the fitness landscape looked very different. Boutique studios barely existed then. I was teaching around 30 classes a week, throwing everything into it. But I wanted somewhere more thoughtful and curated, a place I actually wanted to do Pilates in.
I wanted somewhere to do Pilates where movement wasn't serious, where everything felt like an invitation and fun was the focus (hence the name, Good Times).
So many studios at the time were dark, sterile spaces with instructors instructing at you. I wanted to build something far more meaningful and connected than that. So I worked on my business plan, down to the final tiniest detail and I hunted for the perfect location to open my own studio!
What makes Good Times... well... Good Times?
What makes us unique is our laid-back, welcoming approach.
Everyone is invited to come exactly as they are, and our goal is for them to leave feeling a little better than when they arrived.
We create a safe space, free of judgment, where people are met exactly where they're at. There's always a moment in a Good Times experience designed to delight you. That's the goal: something joyful, fun, a little silly, and deeply welcoming.

What do you hope people feel when they walk through your doors?
I want people to feel connected, to one another and to their own bodies. I want them to leave feeling capable and empowered, a little more human, and a little more badass.
At Good Times, We Have 7 Core Beliefs...
We believe in joy over perfection
We believe in friendship over competition
We believe every person deserves to be seen
We believe in bodily autonomy
We believe the experience is in the details
We believe in keeping things simple
We believe in continuous evolution
What makes a great Pilates instructor?
Good Times Pilates members enjoying one of the best parts of every class.
An exceptional teacher is twofold. Internally, they need real curiosity and critical thinking around movement, a genuine interest in Pilates history, and a strong understanding of anatomy and evidence based practice. That knowledge sits behind the scenes.
Externally, it's about the people. A great teacher knows names, creates a real hospitality experience, and makes every person in the room feel like the focus, even though there's serious expertise behind everything they teach.
The exercises are the foundation. The humans are always at the forefront.
The Pilates world really is a small one...
The Pilates industry is wonderfully connected, and I've always tried hard to reach out to other Pilates teachers and studio owners across Australia and around the world. It can be an isolating role as a studio owner, so building that connection has always mattered to me.
Cat Webb surrounded by fellow Pilates educators, celebrating the friendships and shared passion that make the Pilates community so special.
I'd been a huge fan of East River Pilates for years, continually inspired by the way Kimmy runs her business and the kind of leader she is, along with the reach and impact East River has had. Our studios share many of the same core values and philosophies.
In 2019, I took a class at East River Pilates in New York, the home of Spring. It was a beautiful class in a beautiful space, and I still remember the teacher, Chloe.
I've been fortunate to meet so many like-minded people through Pilates, and it's never just a shared interest in the practice, it's a shared worldview.
Kimmy is one of those people I connected with instantly, and the same goes for Lucy from Scout Studios, SPRING’s Sydney Home Studio, who I've been friends with for years. I love that we're building stronger bonds within the global Pilates community.
Why was partnering with SPRING the right fit for Good Times?
At Good Times, future SPRING students will learn in a community where connection and curiosity come first.
SPRING, East River, and Good Times all share a genuine belief that great Pilates education goes far beyond learning exercises. We all care deeply about building thoughtful, curious teachers who lead with both knowledge and connection.
Partnering felt like a natural extension of what we're already passionate about, and we're excited to help shape the next generation of Pilates educators together.
A note to future SPRING Students from Good Times Pilates
We're excited to share everything! Pilates history, movement exploration, and how to build connection.
We hope you leave not only with technical knowledge, but with the confidence to teach authentically, stay curious throughout your career, and create spaces where every client feels seen, supported, and welcome.
Until Next Time...
Looking back, it feels fitting that one of the very first conversations Talia and I had about SPRING happened after class at Good Times Pilates.
Years later, we're incredibly proud to welcome Cat and the entire Good Times Pilates team as SPRING's Melbourne home for teacher training.
If you've been thinking about becoming a Pilates instructor, we couldn't imagine a better place to begin. You'll learn from passionate educators, be welcomed into an extraordinary community, and experience firsthand why Good Times has become one of Melbourne's most loved Pilates studios.
