Reformer Pilates Certification
Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. A Mat Certification ensures you have the foundational anatomy knowledge, cueing skills, and teaching confidence needed to step into Reformer training safely and successfully.

You’re eligible to join if you have either:

    • Completed the teaching labs in Phase 2 of the SPRING Mat Certification (you do not need to have completed the Mat practical exam before starting Reformer), or

    • Completed a Mat Certification with another provider plus the SPRING Bridging Program

This helps ensure a consistent, supportive learning experience for everyone in the cohort.

  • You’re very welcome to join the Reformer Certification.

To make sure all students enter with shared foundations, you’ll complete the SPRING Bridging Program at least two weeks before labs begin. It’s a supportive, self-paced way to align your skills with our teaching approach and feel fully prepared.

  • The Bridging Program is designed for students who completed Mat training outside of SPRING.

It covers the essentials of our teaching philosophy, anatomy foundations, cueing approach, and movement principles so you can step into Reformer training with confidence.

If you completed the SPRING Mat Certification, you do not need the Bridging Program.

  • Personal Reformer experience isn’t required, but we do recommend having around 25 hours of Reformer classes before starting.

This helps you feel more comfortable with the equipment and supports a smoother transition into teaching labs and logbook work.

  • You don’t need to own a reformer, but regular access to one is strongly recommended for self-practice and practice teaching hours.

Most students complete their hours by:

    • Renting studio time at local Pilates studios

    • Booking practice sessions at SPRING partner studios (studio-dependent and booked directly with the studio)

    • Using reformers at gyms or community studios

    • Renting or purchasing a home reformer, if that’s accessible to you

We’ll help you navigate your options — you’re not doing this alone.

  • Your Reformer Certification includes all three phases of training:

    • Phase 1: Guided online modules

    • Phase 2: In-person teaching labs at your partner studio

    • Phase 3: Career-ready support (logbook, assessments, and portfolio)

    You’ll also receive:

    • 150 hours of structured Reformer + Jumpboard education

    • Beautiful digital manuals

    • A full Reformer + Jumpboard video library

    • Programming templates and class-planning tools

    • Logbook and assessment rubrics

    • 10 Reformer class credits at your partner studio

    • Support from SPRING educators and our global community

You’ll graduate with a complete teaching foundation — ready for real clients and real studios.

  • Yes. These skills are central to how we teach.

    You’ll learn:

    • Ethical tactile cueing and consent

    • Inclusive, trauma-aware language

    • Programming and modifications for diverse bodies

    • Adaptations for pregnancy, older adults, and common injuries

    • How to create supportive, empowering class environments

These principles are woven throughout the curriculum and modeled consistently by our educators.

  • You’ll be prepared to teach:

    • Reformer group classes

    • Private one-on-one sessions

    • Jumpboard formats

    • Hybrid Mat/Reformer programming

    • Reformer in fitness, boutique, and clinical settings

SPRING graduates teach and own studios across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, with Australia launching soon. While we can’t guarantee employment, you’ll graduate with a complete teaching foundation, a polished portfolio, and a supportive global community behind you.

  • Weeks vary depending on the phase. During Phase 1, you’ll focus on self-paced online study. During lab weeks, your schedule centers around in-person teaching labs, supported by targeted online coursework and practice.

The structure is designed to be immersive but manageable, even alongside work and other commitments.

  • The Reformer Certification blends flexibility with hands-on practice so you can build confidence step by step.

    Phase 1 — Online Coursework
You’ll begin with self-paced online modules covering spring mechanics, safety, anatomy, alignment, and key teaching concepts. All Phase 1 modules and the Core Knowledge Check must be completed before attending teaching labs.

Phase 2 — In-Person Teaching Labs + Integrated Online Learning
Labs take place across two consecutive weekends, followed by a 12-day break, then another two consecutive weekends. During labs, you’ll practice teaching, cueing, sequencing, and adapting exercises with real-time educator feedback.

Between weekends two and three, you’ll complete a focused block of online coursework designed to deepen your understanding and prepare you for the next lab block.

    Phase 3 — Career-Ready
After labs, you’ll complete your logbook hours, final assessments, and teaching portfolio — preparing you to step confidently into real studio environments.

This structure keeps learning focused, supportive, and genuinely doable, even with a busy schedule.

  • Reformer teaching labs are held in person at your selected partner studio location.

    During labs, you’ll:

    • Learn 165+ Reformer and Jumpboard exercises

    • Practice teaching and cueing

    • Explore programming, sequencing, and flow

    • Work through adaptations and modifications

    • Receive real-time feedback from educators

    • Build confidence through supervised teaching

Labs are immersive, community-focused, and intentionally small so you feel supported every step of the way.

  • Reformer labs require 100% in-person attendance, as they’re essential to skill development and safety.

If you miss a lab, you’ll need to complete a make-up workshop in the next available cohort. This includes observing the full five-hour workshop and paying the associated make-up fee.

Full details are outlined in our Attendance & Make-Up Policy.

  • Your Reformer logbook is where teaching confidence really takes shape. It includes three types of learning hours:

    Self-Practice
    Self-practice includes two components:

    1. Participation Hours (10 hours required)
Instructor-led Reformer classes taken at a partner studio, local studio, gym, or online platform. These hours help you embody spring changes, setup, load, flow, and alignment.

    2. Self-Study Hours (remaining self-practice hours)
      These may include:

      • Reviewing online modules

      • Studying Reformer and Jumpboard videos

      • Practicing movement when you have access

      • Reading manuals and repertoire notes

      • Writing flow sequences

      • Practicing cueing out loud

    Observation
Watching experienced instructors teach Reformer — online or in person — to learn safety, setup, spring selection, pacing, cueing, and client adaptation.

    Practice Teaching
Teaching real people using a reformer you have access to — at a studio, gym, partner studio, or home setup. This is where you build clarity, presence, and sequencing skills.

    Reformer logbook requirements:

    • 10 hours observation

    • 20 hours practice teaching

    • 40 hours self-practice (participation + self-study)

We provide clear templates and guidelines so you always know what counts and how to track your hours with confidence.

  • Most students complete practice teaching hours through a combination of accessible options, such as:

    • Booking practice slots at local Pilates studios

    • Using reformers at gyms or community studios

    • Renting or borrowing a reformer from a friend or colleague

    • Booking practice sessions at SPRING partner studios (studio-dependent)

If a home setup feels supportive, foldable reformers are often available for around $250–$300, and weekly rentals may be available for approximately $40–$50 per week in many regions.

You don’t need to own a reformer to succeed — but having regular access will support your self-practice and practice teaching hours. Our Student Success Team can also help you explore options based on where you live.

  • To graduate, you’ll complete:

    • A Phase 1 knowledge check

    • A written exam

    • A practical exam

    • A final teaching portfolio

We’ll guide you through every requirement so you feel confident and prepared.

  • There are three key milestones:

    1. Phase 1 Online Coursework
All online modules and the Core Knowledge Check must be completed before teaching labs. If you miss the deadline, you’ll be deferred to a later lab cohort within your 12-month access window.

    2. In-Person Teaching Labs
Full attendance is required to progress to the next stage.

    3. Final Assessments & Portfolio
After labs, you’ll complete your logbook, written exam, practical exam, and teaching portfolio. We’ll guide you through each step so you always know what’s coming next.

  • You’ll enroll in a specific cohort and partner studio location.

Once registered and payment is complete, you’ll receive access to your Phase 1 online modules so you can begin studying before live labs start. If your schedule changes, you may request a deferral to a later cohort within your 12-month access window. See our Deferment Policy for full details.

  • Yes. Many Reformer students speak English as a second language, and we support you throughout the program.

    You’ll have access to:

    • Closed captioning on all online videos

    • Interactive modules available in English, Spanish, and Chinese

    • Clear, patient educators in live labs

    • A supportive peer community

If you ever need clarification or slower pacing, your educators are here to help.

  • After completing Reformer, many graduates begin teaching Reformer classes and private sessions right away, continue refining their skills through practice, or move into advanced training such as Pre & Postnatal or Apparatus.

You’ll remain connected to the SPRING community and supported as you take your next steps.
