Apparatus Certification
Frequently Asked Questions
-
To enroll in the Apparatus Certification, you must have fully completed your Mat and Reformer Certifications, including passing all required written and practical exams.
This ensures you enter the program with the teaching experience, anatomical understanding, and movement foundations needed to teach safely and confidently on the equipment.
-
Apparatus training is an advanced program designed for instructors who already teach confidently on the Mat and Reformer.
The Cadillac/Tower, Chair, and Barrels require deeper anatomical understanding, stronger cueing skills, and a more mature teaching presence. Completing Mat and Reformer first ensures you’re ready for the pace, depth, and real-world teaching expectations of this certification — and set up to get the most from the experience.
-
Yes. We strongly recommend that students entering this certification are already teaching Pilates in a studio setting.
This helps you:
Integrate advanced skills in real time
Complete logbook hours with confidence
Maintain consistent access to the equipment
Step into the program with the experience it’s designed for
This certification is the final step toward becoming comprehensively trained in the SPRING pathway.
-
Yes. You’ll need regular access to the equipment for self-practice and practice teaching hours. This includes:
Cadillac or Tower
Wunda Chair or Combo Chair
Small and large barrels
You do not need to personally own the equipment, but you should be working in, or have consistent access to, a fully equipped studio environment.
-
This program is designed for working instructors who have access to a fully equipped Pilates environment.
Some partner studios may offer practice access, but this is studio-dependent and not guaranteed. If your current studio does not have all required apparatus, we recommend:
Arranging access through another local studio
Speaking with our Student Success Team for region-specific options
Temporarily expanding your teaching location during training
We’ll support you in finding a workable plan, but consistent equipment access is essential for success in this program.
-
No. You are not expected to purchase a Cadillac, Chair, or Barrels for this training.
However, you will need regular access to studio apparatus for:
Self-practice
Observation
Practice teaching
Logbook completion
Most students use the equipment at the studio where they already teach.
-
To graduate, you’ll complete:
A written exam
A practical exam
A final teaching portfolio
We’ll guide you through each requirement with clear structure and support.
-
There are three key milestones:
1. Phase 1 Online Coursework
All online modules (including the knowledge check) must be completed before attending labs.2. In-Person Teaching Labs
Full attendance (100%) is required.3. Final Assessments & Portfolio
After labs, you’ll complete your logbook, final exams, and portfolio. We’ll outline each step clearly so you always know what comes next. -
If you’re teaching confidently on Mat and Reformer, have completed both certifications (including exams), and have consistent access to apparatus equipment, you’re likely ready for this next step.
Apparatus training moves faster and goes deeper, so readiness is less about being “perfect” and more about having solid foundations, real teaching experience, and the bandwidth to integrate advanced skills as you learn. If you’re unsure, our team is happy to help you decide whether now is the right time.
-
You’ll be prepared to teach:
Advanced private sessions
Apparatus-based programming
Cadillac/Tower classes
Chair classes
Barrels-based programming
Comprehensive Pilates in boutique, fitness, and clinical settings
SPRING graduates teach and own studios across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe. While we can’t guarantee employment, you’ll graduate with advanced teaching skills, a polished portfolio, and a supportive global community behind you.
